Born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario, Robert Boshaw grew up listening to
the popular country music and 50's rock and roll that his parents
loved. Rob always enjoyed music and started playing guitar at the age of 14.
His first lessons were given to him for free by Rick Fines
(The Jackson Delta Trio) and Rob has been spending his life since
then returning the favour to his own students.
Rob majored in Jazz Guitar at Humber College in Toronto from 1987-89 and studied
with some of Canada's finest jazz musicians. After leaving Humber he continued to study privately with
guitarists Lorne Lofsky and the late Peter Harris, and later with pianist Bob
Erlendson.
Rob returned to Peterborough in 1991,
where he helped form The
Blueshounds, featuring drummer Chris
Chiarelli and bassist Andrew
Taylor. The Blueshounds wore several hats and often appeared as a polished blues act, played jazz as The Eve Simmons Quartet and they were the rhythm section for various singer/songwriters.
Rob and his wife, Sharylin, recently made the cross-country drive to British Columbia in August 2005 and now
live beside the Pacific Ocean in Steveston,
near Vancouver. In addition to maintaining a thriving teaching
practice, he is recording and gigging regularly with
the Central City Jazz Band
on guitar, and thoroughly enjoys holding down the bottom end playing
bass for the Centre for Spiritual
Living house band on Sunday mornings.
